Throughout this brief i have been concentrating on creating an atmosphere using landscape as my inspiration i originally set out to create eight images using light painting at night, a process in which a location is chosen and the camera is places on a tripod over a long exposure using a cable release the photographer lights up selected parts of the image the wish to show and using a torch or any chosen light source illuminates the image, i wanted to combine this with layering of images on top of each other in order to create a HDR effect similar to the techniques used by photographers as Eric Curry.
I tried this process and although some images were okay i wasn't happy with the result when the images were processed, i decided to change my idea still keeping the theme as landscapes just changing the way i chose to photograph them.
I decided to do varying landscapes using the photo manipulation technique HDR, in this process the photographer takes several different images i chose to do five images for each of my HDR images and take them all to create different exposures of the same scene using a tripod to keep the camera in place so the images would line up together with no movement or the 'ghost' effect that is sometimes present in this type of photography.
The images taken to achieve this process i did one stop apart making each image a different exposure two under exposed one the correct exposure and two over exposed the images are then merged together to create one final image for this i used a program called photomatix essentials, this was advised to me as i was new to HDR and it is a relatively easy program to use.
I produced several different kind of HDR images in various different locations i tried to capture the texture of the surrounding's in the image i found that some things worked better than others in HDR grass brickwork and water seemed to be good subjects to capture for this effect to work at its best. There are also varying different serveries for this technique some so subtle you can hardly tell it has been used and some so severe you struggle to tell what it is.
My final set of the eight images i haven't over processed i feel the middle is the best affect for HDR if it is over processed i feel it looks to much like a bad drawing and if it is under processed it is almost not worth doing i have used the technique on all each images and am happy with the result, i feel i have met the aim i set out to archive the goal in which i had set myself and am quite happy with the results i would have liked to have done more images and i will definitely be using this process in the future.
